New conductor for the SSO
The Sydney Symphony Orchestra has named American David Robertson as its new chief conductor and artistic director.
In a statement to media the SSO said that Robertson “was the favourite amongst the musicians and that he and the orchestra shared the same ambitions.
Robertson added: “I love the Sydney Symphony’s sense of adventure. I’ve already done a number of wide-ranging projects with the orchestra as a guest conductor and the musicians’ readiness to take on any artistic challenge is something I find personally inspiring.
Robertson is married to Jerusalem-born pianist Orli Shaham. He told J-Wire that he hopes she will perform with the SSO during his period as chief conductor.
The new chief conductor was born in Santa Monica, California and is both the Music Director of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra and the principal Guest Conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
He will start his new position with the SSO in 2014 but will is it with his wife and their twin sons later this year.
