The story was not broken as reported by online news site The Times of Israel which was the first significant news site to publish but by Israeli blogger Tal Schneider.

Although sounding very authentic, the trip cannot be confirmed. The Israeli Embassy in Canberra is not receiving information from Jerusalem due to a strike at the Foreign Ministry and is unable to confirm or deny the planned visit.

According to the Times of Israel the only Israeli government comment they could elicit was that Netanyahu had met Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott in Davos, Switzerland at the World Economic Forum in January.

J-Wire reported on that meeting.

J-Wire has asked Mr Abbott’s office to comment.
