Fifteen Muslim community leaders, including Imams, Islamic Council of Victorian leaders, and representatives from the Islamic Museum and Benevolence Australia participated in the JCCV’s Jewish Immersion Day for Muslim Community Leaders.

The group was welcomed by JCCV President Jennifer Huppert at St Kilda Hebrew Congregation, and they also visited the Jewish Museum of Australia, the Jewish Holocaust Centre (JHC) and finished with a lunch with Rabbis and other Jewish community leaders at the Beth Weizmann Community Centre.

The participants were clearly moved by the experience at the JHC, and meeting Survivor Guides who could tell their stories first hand.

Jennifer Huppert stated, “It was a wonderful educational and bridge building experience for all involved. This is the first time so many Muslim leaders have participated in such an extensive program on the Jewish community. And they expressed a clear desire for more, and broader interactions across our communities.”

Presenters on the day included Jennifer Huppert, President of the Rabbinical Council of Australia & NZ Rabbi Yaakov Glasman, Jewish Museum CEO Rebecca Forgasz, JHC Executive Director Warren Fineberg, TBI’s Rabbi Gersh Lazarow and past JCMA President Rabbi Ralph Genende.

Representatives from the Rabbinical Council of Victoria, AUJS and Jewish Care also participated on the day.
