Music played in Seidler buildings
In the Sydney Festival’s Seidler Salon Series music and architecture will come together in a series of concerts hosted in and around, and inspired by, the singular buildings of Australia’s most famous modernist architect, Harry Seidler.
The buildings hosting performances are the Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre, Ultimo; Harry and Penelope Seidler House, Killara; Seidler Penthouse, Milsons Point; Julian Rose House and Rose Seidler House, Wahroonga.
- Internationally renowned musicians performing in intimate locations
- Unique opportunity to see inside some of Sydney’s most iconic buildings
- Seidler Salon Series continues a multi-year Sydney Festival exploration of architecture and music
- Musicians performing include Mary Lattimore, Elena Kats-Chernin, Lori Goldston, Chuck Johnson and Laurence Pike
Sydney’s polymath percussionist, producer and composer Laurence Pike journeys through his musical history of jazz and electronic experimentation, performing at Rose Seidler House.
Performing in the unique space of the Seidler-designed Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre, Los Angeles harpist Mary Lattimore plucks dreamy, sunlight-filled arpeggios and otherworldly loops, which will be played through speakers submerged in the Ian Thorpe Aquatic Centre’s pool.
Seattle cellist Lori Goldston plays songs, improvisations and compositions that relentlessly explore the far reaches of the instrument’s voice, responding to the modernist surroundings of the Seidler Penthouse.
Chuck Johnson is a guitarist and composer steeped in the sounds of his native North Carolina. Johnson’s music fuses minimalist composition with American gospel and suspends them in blissful, ambient pedal steel guitar meditations, performed at Julian Rose House.
