Multicultural culture
Actor Robert Sharpe has added a Jewish element to a multi-cultural play currently being performed in Sydney.
“Alex & Eve – The Wedding”, a comedy written by playwright Alex Lykos of Greek background, light-heartedly highlights the cross-cultural antics of two families of different backgrounds preparing for the marriage of the Greek-Orthodox Alex to the Lebanese-Muslim Eve.
Sydney-based Sharpe, 66, plays Eve’s father Bassam. Sharpe was born in Leeds, UK, to a Hungarian mother and a Russian father. This real-life Jewish father of three, plays a Lebanese-Muslim father-of-the-bride whose stage daughter’s wedding ceremony is performed by an Irish-Catholic celebrant.
Alex & Eve – The Wedding is being performed at the Factory Theatre, Marrickville. The play is directed by Michael Block.
