Multicultural Advisory Council Meets for the First Time
The newly-formed Multicultural Advisory Council will advise the Government on the way it deals with cultural, racial and religious intolerance.Chaired by AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou, the 16-member council met in Canberra on Tuesday for the first time. The Jewish community is represented by Brian Schwartz AM.
The Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Senator Chris Evans, said: “The Council will play an important role in articulating the benefits of Australia’s diversity and shaping the Government’s response to religious and cultural intolerance.”
Parliamentary Secretary for Multicultural Affairs and Settlement Services Laurie Ferguson added: “Religious and cultural diversity is a permanent and valuable feature of Australian society.”
