Melbourne’s Mount Scopus community is ready to welcome families returning to Australia from Israel.

Rabbi James Kennard

“Our immediate priority for families with school-age children who are fleeing Israel is to ensure they can enrol their children as seamlessly as possible into a Jewish day school, and restore some sense of stability for them,” Mount Scopus Principal, Rabbi James Kennard, said.

To assist families with integrating into Melbourne, Mount Scopus will expedite any enrolment processes so students can settle into their new classrooms as quickly and smoothly as possible. School Psychologists, Counsellor and the Co-Curricular Jewish Education (CCJE) team will be available to help new students overcome any language or culture barriers, and will also provide emotional support.

The school is also stressing that costs should not be an obstacle for anyone resettling back into Melbourne and wanting their child to enrol at Mount Scopus, with confidential financial assistance supported by the Scopus Foundation readily available if needed.

“Some of these children may have experienced the horrors of war first-hand, and all have had to suddenly leave their homes,” Rabbi Kennard said. “Our concern, above all else, is to provide a safe haven for them at Scopus.”

“Like every Jew this past week, the College has felt incredible sadness and deep pain at the unimaginable horrors in Israel. With this sadness we are reminded that despite the distance, we are one community and we must all look out for each other.”

Mount Scopus continues to mourn and stand with the people of Israel.
