Following submissions from Melbourne’s The King David School and Bialik College to the Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee’s enquiry into allowing faith-based educational institutions to discriminate on the basis of gender identity, sexual orientation or other protected attributes, the city’s Mount Scopus College has echoed similar sentiments.

Rabbi James Kennard

Mount Scopus Memorial College principal Rabbi James Kennard has written that the institution “has never had recourse to use existing provisions for excluding students or staff on the basis of their sexuality, nor can we foresee a situation in which we would ever wish to use such provisions.”

Mount Scopus has recommended their removal from legislation.
