New Zealand educators who teach the Holocaust have been offered an opportunity to further their studies in Israel through a heavily subsidised scheme.

The seminar is sponsored by Yad Vashem, The Government of Israel, and The Holocaust Centre of New Zealand.

The subject of the almost two week seminar will be teaching about the Shoah and antisemitism. Topics covered will include ‘Who are the Jews’, Jewish politics in inter-war Poland, literary responses to the Holocaust, resources for teaching the Holocaust, Judaism and anti-Judaism in medieval Christianity, the rise of modern antisemitism, the Holocaust in art, music and literature, and other topics relevant to the understanding of the Holocaust.

Hotel expenses during the duration of the seminar and partial airfares are covered with the cost to participants being NZ$1500

The seminar, in January 2013, will be hosted by the International School for Holocaust Studies at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem.

Close off date for applications is 15 October

  1. Lynne Newington says:

I wonder what the feelings are on David Slucki’s views are on an article on TheConversation,To Soon? The Case for Holocaust Humour. I didn’t think there should be a case, ever, The very fact schools are now being educators it is a far cry from presenting anything humorous, you looking for understanding, respect and sacredness surely.
Naturally our views crossed and my comment removed, and I can live with that.
