More from the Masters
We cover swimming, bowls and kayaking….Two members of the Maccabiah swimming squad were in action at the Aquatic Centre Yesterday
Clive Aarons swam the 50m breast-stroke along with Brian May who also competed in the 100m butterfly.
No medals for the boys this time. Multi-medal winner at the Maccabiah Jeff Sher did not make the trip to Sydney from his Melbourne home as a back injury forced his withdrawal from the tournament.
The lawn bowlers struck gold with Arnold Javen and Gerald Weinberg, members at Sydney’s Double Bay bowling club winning their tournament in the men’s 60+. The club also entered a women’s team but the gongs evaded them.
Not easy at the kayaking
Rozanne Green reports:
K2 Rozanne Green and Caroline Warne 21 km , because of high winds course closed after 14km. Gold for both.
Today was pretty scary, it was windy again. We were on a TK2 (touring kayak for 2). If you capsize you have to swim to the side and empty the kayak unassisted before continueing on the course. We so easily could have been a DNF (did not finish) as we did capsize but managed to right ourselves and continue after emptying out the kayak. Tragically we did see one competitor being taken away by rubber ducky while CPR was being administered.psize you have to swim to the side and empty the kayak unassisted before continueing on the course. Rozanne and her partner won gold. The competitor who collapsed died.
