Sir Moses Montefiore is a well-known and respected figure in Jewish history having devoted his life and a considerable part of his fortune to benevolent activities.

Dr Simon Sebag Montefiore, an internationally acclaimed bestselling author, historian and television presenter is the great-nephew of Sir Moses and was in Sydney visiting from London to appear in a number of special events organised by the Sydney Jewish Writers Festival.

Mautner had the opportunity to meet Dr Montefiore at an event held at Waverley Library where Dr Montefiore delighted a sell-out crowd whilst discussing his latest book, The Romanovs.

Tom Mautner said, “It was truly a pleasure to meet a descendant of Sir Moses Montefiore whose unwavering devotion to benevolent and charitable endeavours  continues to inspire the Home to provide world-class care to all of its residents, including a large proportion with little to no financial means.”
