Monte – meet Monte
Sydney’s Montefiore’s Honorary Treasurer, Tom Mautner, has met with Dr Simon Sebag Montefiore, a descendant of Sir Moses Montefiore, the man after which Montefiore Home was named.
Sir Moses Montefiore is a well-known and respected figure in Jewish history having devoted his life and a considerable part of his fortune to benevolent activities.
Dr Simon Sebag Montefiore, an internationally acclaimed bestselling author, historian and television presenter is the great-nephew of Sir Moses and was in Sydney visiting from London to appear in a number of special events organised by the Sydney Jewish Writers Festival.
Mautner had the opportunity to meet Dr Montefiore at an event held at Waverley Library where Dr Montefiore delighted a sell-out crowd whilst discussing his latest book, The Romanovs.
