Nurturing Jewish culture and tradition is a cornerstone of the Montefiore Home and makes us unique in Residential aged care.

Rabbi David Rogut

Through a comprehensive program of activities, we ensure that Residents enjoy a sense of community and a celebration of their religious and cultural heritage. Full Synagogue services are held at both our Hunters Hill and Randwick Synagogues.

There are several programs for our Residents leading up to the festivals including shofar making, concerts by visiting schools and shiurim by our Spiritual Dean, Rabbi David Rogut OAM and visiting Rabbis.

Tashlich is conducted on the first day of Rosh Hashanah and candle lighting (both individual and communal) is offered on an ongoing basis to our Residents. Rosh Hashanah and festival dinners with Resident families are a favourite, and Yizkor services are held at Randwick, Woollahra and Hunters Hill on Yom Kippur and the various festivals.

Our Catering and Lifestyle teams plan extensively to ensure that delicious Yom Tov meals are served with all of the traditional favourite delicacies on the menu. Resident’s families are invited to join them for meals at the Home to celebrate the festivals together.

During Sukkot, teas are held in the sukkah at every campus and invitations are extended to family and friends to join the Residents in the Sukkot.  This year’s theme will have a Middle Eastern flavour. The end of Sukkot brings Simchat Torah which is celebrated with joyous singing and dancing in the Synagogue with the Torahs.

The Montefiore takes this opportunity to wish J-Wire readers a Chag Sameach and a safe and happy holiday season.
