Monika shines for Montefiore
Over the past two years, Montefiore has done managed the wellbeing and safety of its residents, their families, staff, and volunteers.
It has done so by conducting numerous vaccination clinics, implementing best practices infection control procedures and training, establishing Rapid Antigen Testing at all its sites, and staying up to date with all public health directives.
This vigilance has prevented Montefiore from having any widespread COVID-19 transmission, however with the highly contagious Omicron strain spreading rapidly through Sydney, containment simply wasn’t sustainable forever. Montefiore’s rigorous training, compliance, and industry experience have allowed it to maintain one of the lowest transmission rates in aged care.
A cornerstone of Montefiore’s success has been the tremendous work of its staff members, who have gone above and beyond to ensure residents’ happiness and safety, especially during the holiday periods where many worked double shifts, waived their leave and gave up precious family time.
Monika Mehta, a Clinical Governance Lead, has gone to extraordinary lengths to safeguard Montefiore’s residents during this challenging time.
Sadly, this past year Monika lost her parents, brother, and a close family friend back in India to the virus. This made Monika even more empathetic to the residents’ families and determined to fight this virus with everything she has. As a qualified nurse, she has assisted with the distribution of medications, regular repositioning of residents and feedings, and stockpiling of PPE supplies all on top of her normal responsibilities. As Monika explains, “I would do anything to support Montefiore and our residents.
The Lifestyle & Leisure department has also worked tirelessly to keep residents actively engaged during lockdown with a wide variety of activities such as: painting, yoga & meditation, and garden walks (all while donning full PPE). Most importantly, the lifestyle & leisure team have ensured that residents remain connected with their friends & family via Zoom & Facetime during lockdown.
