‘Mockery of the Holocaust’: Macron Slammed for Visit with Abbas. Australia’s GG another visitor
French President Emmanuel Macron’s meeting with Palestinian Authority (PA) head Mahmoud Abbas during his visit to Israel to commemorate the Holocaust “is a mockery of the Holocaust,” Israeli politician Sarah Beck charged in a letter she sent him on Thursday.
Macron, who is in Israel together with 45 global leaders and royals to attend the Fifth World Holocaust Forum at the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial and to mark the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, met Abbas in Ramallah late Wednesday night.
Beck wrote in a letter she sent Macron that “as a granddaughter of Holocaust survivors and of a grandfather who served as a rabbi and a colonel in the French army, I feel that your visit to the Muqata [PA headquarters in Ramallah], where Arafat, who has the blood of masses of Jews on his hands is buried, and with Abbas, the Holocaust denier, as part of the Holocaust memorial event, is like bringing the killer-executioner to the mourners home.”
During a meeting of the Palestinian National Council in 2018, Abbas stated that Jews in Europe were massacred for centuries because of their “social role related to usury and banks,” a statement condemned globally as explicit antisemitism.
Beck wrote her letter “on behalf of third-generation Holocaust survivors and on behalf of victims of terrorism.”
She added that she appreciated the visit and the president’s activities against antisemitism but noted that “it cannot be that the visit involves such a severe moral distortion, in which you pay homage to those who have raised the banner of killing Jews.”
“Your visit there desecrates the event,” she concluded.
But Macron is not the only leader who visited Abbas.
Australia’s Governor-General David Hurley also visited the Palestinian leader.
The AJA which describes itself as being centre-right/conservative politically and guided by Torah values states: “The Governor-General visits a leading Holocaust denier and terrorist chief, Mahmoud Abbas, dictator of the Palestinian Authority, who pays for those who murder Jews as a matter of officially sanctioned policy.
The PA incorporates in its propaganda some ideological elements of Nazism including demonising of Jews and promulgating wild conspiracy theories. IndeedAbbas’ book “The Other Side: The Secret Relationship Between Nazism and Zionism” (Billsan Publishing House, Ramallah, 2011), is replete with outrageous antisemitic, Holocaust denial and conspiracy content.”
Dr David Adler, AJA President added: “We see the GG as a person of integrity, but we say he has been badly advised on this occasion. It is distressing for our GG to meet the leader of an organisation which incites and rewards terrorists to murder Jews in Israel and to do so on a visit with the primary purpose of Holocaust commemoration. Not a good look.”
Mahmoud Abbas’s Facebook page shows no other leaders visiting until this time but there may have been some European visitors.
Bur former Australia ambassador to Israel Dave Sharma told J-Wire: “It would be normal for any head of government/head of state to always meet the Palestinian leader at the same time as a visit to Israel. Normal practice. Howard met Arafat in 2000 for instance, as well as Barak. Last year, India’s Modi and Japan’s Abe visited Ramallah too.”
With J-Wire
Phillip Mendes’ laughable post attempts to rationalise an act of infamy by invoking the “internationally recognised” status of the arch-antisemite, Mahmoud Abbas, leader of a manufactured entity.
Adolf Hitler was the internationally recognised leader of the German people.
How much moral legitimacy did that impart to him?
The apple, Abbas, did not fall far from ‘the tree,” Adolf Hitler.
Mahmoud Abbas is the elected President of the PA, and the internationally recognized leader of the Palestinian people. If the AJA don’t think he is a suitable person for our GG to meet, then which Palestinian leader would they nominate as suitable? I hope the answer is not the leader of Hamas.
Mahmoud Abbas wants exactly the same outcome for Israel as does Hamas.
Only their strategies are different.
The citizens of Israel have finally woken from the Peres-induced delusion of “peace in our time” via the Oslo Accords ambush.
Any one who gives any credit to the criminal “Palestinian” ‘Authority” or its leadership is assisting in the campaign to dismantle Israel in stages.
Leon – and your evidence for this wild assertion is? I suggest you inform yourself about the reality of Middle Eastern politics before you spout the usual off the planet propaganda. Read Rumley, Grant and Tibon, Amir (2017) The last Palestinian : The rise and reign of Mahmoud Abbas. Prometheus Books, New York.
I am appalled and disgusted that our Governor General shook the hand of a man who denies the Holocaust and pays terrorists who murder Israeli children
Via a PA media outlet the Palestinian Authority have even been calling for murder to stop the Holocaust memorial ceremony in Jerusalem. In view of such extraordinary behaviour how could any decent person suggest that it would appropriate at this time to be visiting Abbas? Refer https://palwatch.org/page/17253
Sorry to disagree with Dave Sharma whose statement I find to be heartless and offensive.
The Governor General was in Israel as part of an international contingent of heads of state and other leaders to respect the memories of six million Jews slaughtered in the Holocaust. This was certainly no ordinary visit.
Going to Ramallah with French Prime Minister Macron and possibly other leaders creates the perception that there is little concern shown for Jews that are alive today – including Holocaust survivors – especially when the person the Governor General meets is paying out $300 million per annum to terrorists and their families who have murdered and maimed Jews and their families.
Whoever gave the Governor General this shocking advice should be looking for a new job.
A full statement by the Prime Minister is required on why this visit was made to Abbas together with an apology to the Australian Jewish community – especially to those Australians (including myself) who have family members living in Israel. Many Australians have succumbed to these terrorist attacks.
As one of your constituents Dave Sharma – I am not impressed.
I would not be “sorry” to disagree with him. Decency requires condemnation.
His rationalisation of an ugly, scandalous act is pathetic, transparent and counter-productive.
Israel MP Sarah Beck sounds like a self promoter and someone living in the past and on the coattails of others. Talking up the status of an ancestor in the French Army is irrelevant to this issue.
President Macron and Queen Elizabeth’s representative, Australian Governor General David Hurley, can meet with who they like. As an Australian I don’t need to listen to the ravings of a backbench non-entity parliamentarian in Israel like Beck.
In Australia His Excellency attends many Jewish functions as seen here in J-Wire and in the AJN so Ms Sarah Beck don’t cheese him off or interfere with his duties representing Australia overseas.
