Based in Israel, Tanzanian Dr Godwin Godfrey headed the team operating in his native country. Dr Godwin works with SACH…Save a Child’s Heart partly funded by Melbourne’s Pratt Foundation.

The organisation was established in 2008 and its team has to date has treated more than 300 children in Tanzania and Zanzibar.

Dr Godwin has complied five years’ training with SACH in Israel and today is the only paediatric heart surgeon in Tanzania.

Team member Tamar Shapira told J-Wire: “Some of the children we examined require specialised treatment and they will be flown to Israel where we have the facilities to deal with their cases”
