Memorial Service for Johannesberg Educator

A memorial service is to be held in honour of Gary Block who was the deputy principal of Johannesburg’s King David High School.

Gary Block collapsed in front of pupils at the school a month ago. Hetzollah paramedics reached the school within four minutes and administered emergency treatment before rushing him to hospital. He was in a coma from which he did not recover and died one week later. He was 46 and single.

The memorial service will be held this coming Sunday, April 1, at the Jewish Learning Centre in Blair St Bondi at 5:30pm. It will mark the end of the shloshim.

Gary Block had been at King David for 22 years and was an extremely popular and respected educator. J-Wire has learned that more than 3,000 people attended his funeral in the South African city.

His brother Martin will travel with his family from Melbourne to Sydney from and will attend the memorial service.
