The Victorian Jewish community has expressed concerned that an extremist Islamic organisation with a history of incitement and antisemitism has begun holding meetings in Melbourne.

Hizb ut-Tahrir is banned in the US, Germany, Russia and many Muslim countries including Pakistan and Egypt because it is defined as a terrorist group. Terrorists involved in 9/11 and the London bombings have been linked to the group.

In Australia the group has been meeting in Sydney since 2007 but over the past year has begun holding events in Melbourne. Jewish leaders are concerned that the group held a meeting in the Brunswick Town Hall on Sunday, with the permission of the Moreland City Council.

They will be writing to council to ensure it is aware of Hizb ut-Tahrir’s history of incitement, rejection of democracy and race hatred.

The chairman of the Jewish Community Council of Victoria Mr John Searle said he was sure the Moreland Council would not wish to support a group that preaches violence and runs counter to the spirit of multiculturalism.

”This is an issue that anyone who respects democracy and the rule of law should be concerned about as this a group that rejects Australian values.

“Hizb ut-Tahrir in Sydney describes Israel as ‘a dagger in Muslim lands’ and argues that democracy is not for Muslims. We don’t want that kind of divisiveness undermining multicultural Melbourne.”

A Jewish community organisation which monitors antisemitism says internationally Hizb ut-Tahrir has an appalling record of spreading hate against Jews, The chairman of the B’nai B’rith Anti-Defamation Commission Mr Tony Levy said Hizb ut-Tahrir’s ideology of destroying democracy and replacing it with an Islamic Caliphate was partially responsible for terrorist attacks like 9/11 and 7/7.  In Britain Hizb ut-Tahrir disseminated material claiming Jews were “a people of slander”  and in Denmark a Hizb ut-Tahrir leader was convicted of inciting racial hatred after telling Muslims to kill Jews.

“Australians would be foolish to ignore the violence and hatred this group has expressed in other countries. We have a wonderful tolerant multicultural society and we have to be vigilant in protecting it,” he said.

I feel outraged after reading the manner of Larry Stillman’s obnoxious and ill informed criticisms of the Q Society and the sterling work they are doing. His comments reflect his ignorance and complete lack of insight into what Islam is about, what sharia represents, the differences between halal and shechita….and so much more. I suggest he awaken from his stupor and get some education before attacking someone like Vickie Janson whose goodwill, knowledge and exemplorary work she and other leaders within the Society are doing. They are articulate, intelligent and well informed individuals who are passionate about truth, reality and facts…

I don’t get it… why aren’t they just banned from operating in this country? Islam4UK was banned, with a 10 yr jail term for anyone who joined. So, what are we waiting for??

There is information available that laws are before the parliament in Queensland at the moment to remove guns from the populace in any form – including toy water pistols. As we are a country at war and our soldiers are being killed as a result, disarming the population seems to be rather disturbing. Apart from the general use country people have for firearms, ie the killing of dangerous vermin wild pigs etc. how will a defense be mounted if we allow extremists to continue to build up in our country Australia.

I could make some suggestions on how to deal with those of the baser sort, but, 1. to make a suggestion on a comment blog like this is not stealthy enough, the baser sort would know what’s coming and prepare for it, our problem is we are not sneaky enough. 2. who would hear without seeing it as ridiculous and laughing to scorn. I have ideas on the destruction of coming cordova, but who would hear…………….IN PRIVATE??? We must learn to be as clandestine as they are, we are way too transparent!!!

This information is surely being closely monitored by the Auatralian Federal Police, however, it would be good to have some investigative journalism into this subversive group and flush them out in the media.
