Medicine for Marrickville

A long time ago – some sixty years – I had a spell of some medical responsibilities in the Marrickville area.  It was the time of early multiculturalism and I retain pleasant  memories of a happy polyglot community with a great sense of civic pride and neighbourly concern.

Recently my wife and I attended a joyous multicultural gig in Marrickville but was rather struck by the large number of significant pot-holes in many streets.

Perhaps the Marrickville Council, instead of targeting such a small country as Israel, probably the world’s greatest multicultural success, in its “Boycott Israel” campaign, it should get real and serious and start throwing its substantial weight around where it truly matters.

For a start, how about a Declaration of War on the United States?  In the unlikely outcome of the Council being defeated, it would presumably qualify for the receipt of the then US equivalent of Marshall Aid.  Voila, to use a good multicultural French word, you have it, and there should be enough left over to fix all the pot-holes in the municipality as well!

Yours sincerely,
