In Melbourne, Nazi salutes are now illegal, a crane shows the Palestinian colours. In Sydney, an  ugly beach incident and an unwanted musical interlude.

Giving a Nazi salute is now illegal in Victoria.

Daniel Aghion stated: “Last night, the Victoria Parliament passed the Summary Offences Amendment (Nazi Salute Prohibition) Bill 2023 to ban Nazi salutes and additional Nazi symbols in Victoria.

In the wake of offensive recent displays by neo-Nazis in Melbourne, we are pleased the Victorian Parliament has quickly passed these new laws banning Nazi salutes and additional Nazi symbols.

We expect these laws to receive Royal Assent next week. The next step we want to see is Victoria Police using these new laws to send a strong message that there is no place for Nazi supporters in Melbourne.

We cannot tolerate a repeat of last weekend’s parade of Nazis through Melbourne and harassment and abuse of train passengers. These laws give Police even more tools to act.”

In Flinders St, a crane appears to have been lit up in the Palestine colours.

In Sydney, co-CEO of The Executive Council of Australian Jewry Alex Ryvchin appeared in the very popular Ray Hadley radio show on 2GB.

He told Hadley of a very ugly incident on Watson’s Bay beach yesterday.

Ryvchin told Hadley’s audience: “At a very popular beach in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, Watsons Bay, a gentleman described as being of a Middle Eastern appearance began yelling on the beach. F**** the Jews, Jews get off the beach. He was then confronted by a Jewish man, at which point the perpetrator threatened to rape his wife in front of him. It’s the sort of despicable act that is becoming more and more common and we can’t have this on our beaches.

We can’t have this on our streets. We can’t have this in our society. It’s just absolutely deplorable to think that families were subjected to this sort of thing.

In the evening, again, in the very Jewish neighbourhood of Bellevue Hill, a car was parked in a residential area, blaring Arabic music for a lengthy period of time.

Again, the aim here is to intimidate and harass the community. There are people amongst us who looked at the scenes of carnage, of the atrocity of gang rape, of the slaughter of the beheading of babies, who looked at that with relish and with pride. They feel confident, and they want to intimidate and threaten Australians here, and we just can’t allow that to happen.”

  1. Brian Wiener says:

why on earth would Alex Ryvchin refer to an an obnoxious thug threatening Jews as a ‘gentleman’?? That is ludicrous.

    • Liat Kirby says:

In doing so, he shows the huge separation line between him (and us) the Jew and this ‘gentleman of Middle Eastern appearance’ a thug perhaps of the likes of Hamas.

The exposure of this on radio by Alex Ryvchin is exactly what we need. The blaring Arabic music with its purposes in the Bellevue Hills street another example of attempted subjection and supposed exhibition of power.

I must say, on top of still feeling dazed by the Hamas massacre and taking of hostages, together with the daily reporting implicitly justifying it, this comes as further dumbfounded shock. We are certainly under attack in this country.
