A member of Sydney’s  Inner West Jewish community is one of the prize-winners in the inaugural “Spirit Life in Marrickville”  art project, with her entry, a diptych etching entitled “Windows”.

Janet Kossky enjoys her moment

The art project was initiated by the Marrickville Multifaith Roundtable to celebrate diversity in the municipality through visual arts and poetry. The Roundtable includes representatives of the municipality’s religious bodies, including Christian, Hindu, Islamic and Jewish participants. The winner Janet Kossy, who is a member of iwJAFA, an alliance of Inner West Jews and friends formed in response to Marrickville Council’s  attempt to boycott Israel, was prompted to enter to support this “fine local initiative, promoting interaction and understanding between the various religious communities”.  She believes that “the participation of local Jews is important, not least to maintain awareness that we are part of this multicultural suburb.”
