Robin Margo SC, President of the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies, laid a wreath at a Jewish commemoration service on Sunday to mark ANZAC Day.

Margo’s parents served in the Eighth Army in North Africa and Italy, his father as a sapper and his mother as an army nurse. They married in uniform in the Rome Synagogue after the Italian armistice. The service was organised by the NSW Association of Jewish Ex-Servicemen and Women at the NSW Jewish War Memorial Building in Darlinghurst.
I attended Central Synagogue last Sunday and frankly, was totally disinterested in what Robin Margo and the Labour Members had to say. Other than listening to what Turnbull had to say which I found comforting the rest of the evening was a total waste of time and I wont be attending any more of these. When I stood up to ask Robin Margo about a rally to show our support for Israel he completley dismissed such an event and went on to say that a ‘professional committee’ of 30 met and decided that it was not in the interests of the jewish community to hold such events. Committee! We all know what Committees do “NOTHING”. They posulate. Instead, once again, the jewish people look and are gutless to show real support. We spend thousands sending our children to jewish private schools to get a jewish education and identiy and all they come away with is about ‘wanting be counted as one of the cool crowd’, who has the most money and who is going to be the most successful. I once believed the phrase ‘never again’ was true but with the recent events and anti Israel (ultimately being anti jewish) sentiment in the media and around the world I am beginning to really worry about ‘our future’ in the Diaspora and in Israel. It is becoming politically correct to be anti Israel/jewish and pro palestinian and I am very concerned about our future. We must stand up and not become again the ultimate ‘victims’. The Australian Jewish Community should be making their statements peacefully to the nation and around the world in support for Israel. Robin Margo and the Jewish Board of Deputies should not control what does and does not get done in this community.
