Mar-01 Sydney: Dahlia Dior in cabaret

Read on for article

International World Cabaret, is a passionate presentation of rhythmically throbbing and tuneful songs, combined with spoken, often dramatic insights into multicultural history with delicious, saucy and hilarious stories…

Musically, the concert explores Middle Eastern, European, South American and English styles with an emphasis on peace and reconciliation, shared history and beliefs, cultural cross-fertilisation and conviviality…

Many of the songs are fusions of lyrics and melodies, from the French: La Foule… Italian: Grande, Grande… Brazilian cluster of beauties, the Gypsy Wind & Fire, classic popular English and American songs, favourite Russian and Greek folksongs, the best of Spanish rousing songs and my soul-enriching lyrical classics in Ladino, Yiddish, Hebrew and Arabic Culminating in “We bring peace upon us” and Salaam.

Backed by superb musicians: Marcello Maio(piano/accordion), Eddie Bronson(flute, clarinet, saxophone, accordion, euphonium), Mark Harris(double bass/vocals), Jess Ciampa(drums/percussion).

“Dior’s special gift is to animate not just her face and the lyrics, but the stage and the whole room. With eyes like rising suns, she charmed with demureness one moment, beguiled with raunchiness the next… This was Dior’s night: as effervescent as champagne”. (John Shand – Sydney Morning Herald)
