Manhunt for Jerusalem terrorist continues on Sukkot
Israel’s combined security forces continued on Monday, during the Sukkot holiday, the manhunt for the terrorist who carried out the deadly shooting attack at Shuafat checkpoint on Saturday night which left IDF soldier Sergeant Noa Lazar dead and a security guard in serious condition.
An integrated police force under the command of the Jerusalem district commander has been operating since the attack, and the hunt for the terrorist continues with all the security forces. The activity is being carried out “visibly and by hidden units, from the ground and from the air, using a variety of units and means,” the police stated.
The terrorist was identified as Udai Tamimi and he is believed to be in the Shuafat area.
During the searches, the forces encountered violent disturbances and 0ttempts to harm them by Arab rioters who threw rocks and Molotov cocktails and launched fireworks at them. The forces used measures to disperse disturbances and acted to repel the rioters.
On the last day, the Israel Police arrested three suspects for involvement in riots in the eastern Jerusalem area.
On Sunday night, police officers arrested a suspect, 35 from Essawiya, who participated in a violent disturbance that occurred shortly before his arrest. A policeman operating at the scene was slightly injured during the riot.
In another incident, a suspect, 21 from Kfar Aqab, who threw a bottle at police officers operating at the Qalandiya crossing, was arrested by the police.
In addition, during an operation in the Silwan neighbourhood, the police searched the house of a suspect, 21, who participated in the disturbances, and seized a number of Molotov cocktails and fireworks.
Also, in the last few days, the Jerusalem district police have arrested additional suspects for their involvement in the recent disturbances in the eastern part of the city.
In addition to the four suspects who were arrested on suspicion of involvement in the terror attack, additional suspects connected to the terrorist were detained for questioning.
The security forces have mapped Tamimi’s home ahead of its demolition.
The Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital updated that the civil security guard, David Moral, 30, who was also injured in the attack, continues to be serious, and has not yet stabilized.
