A man has been arrested in Queensland following a serious threat against Melbourne’s community centre Beth Weizmann over the weekend.

Beth Weizmann

The Queensland man has been charged with using a carriage service to menace, harass or cause offence over the threat. He will appear in court next month.

Elyse Schachna, President of Beth Weizmann Jewish Community Centre and Zionism Victoria said: “We would like to thank Queensland Police for their very swift action in making an arrest.

We would also express the deepest gratitude to CSG for their remarkable efforts to keep us all safe.

Beth Weizmann Jewish Community Centre is a hub of Jewish life. Children attend Jewish studies classes, there is a Jewish library on site, and many of our community organisations have offices there.

We wish to reassure all tenants and visitors that, with CSG and Beth Weizmann management, we are working to ensure the building is safe for anyone who comes here.

Our Jewish community is reeling from these unrelenting threats to our security and safety. We need all Australians to say ‘enough in enough’. We want to be left in peace to live our lives. We want an Australia where we are all safe.”

It touches as deep as the marrow..having to ask to be left in peace in this day and age.
When I think of the likes of John Monash…..and the ideology of Rabbi Brasch being grateful to Australia for opening the doors for the Jewish community seeking a secure haven.
