Queensland Board of Deputies president Jason Steinberg has reported that a Jewish man wearing an “I stand with Israel” t-shirt was assaulted by two men in Brisbane last month.

The Courier Mail wrote that he was abused by two men as a “Jew c–t” and then kicked in the guts by one of them for wearing a shirt emblazoned with ‘I stand with Israel’.

Police were called to the February 17 incident, which happened when the man and his partner were walking to the Gallery of Modern Art for an exhibition.

The victim said “It started as anti-Semitic slurs … f–king Jew, Jew c–t,”

The Courier Mail reported the man said his retaliation, telling the abusers to go away, prompted one of them to kick him “right in the guts” – leaving him winded but able to call police.

The man, who has not been named for fear of retribution, told the paper that he is continuing to wear pro-Israel slogans.

The violent attack was part of a rising number of anti-Semitic incidents recorded in Queensland since the war between Israel and Palestine started on October 7.

Jason Steinberg told the Courier Mail it was an example of the anti-Semitism spreading through the community.

The good thing is that both people engaged in the assault have been identified and charged by QLD Police.
