A man will appear in court tomorrow in Auckland for protesting against Israeli tennis star Shahav Peer’s participation in an international tennis tournament.

An Auckland police spokesman told J-Wire: “The man has been charged with disorderly behaviour.”

The protester created an unscheduled break in play as he used a megaphone to object to Peer playing in the ASB tennis classic.

In spite of the break, Peer went on to win her second round match against Slovak Magdelena Rybarikova 6-1, 6-0 although media reports claim that the Slovak felt the match “should have been replayed or moved to another court”.

The protestors who belong to the Global Peace and Justice Group have vowed to maintain their demonstrations against Peer as she progresses in the tournament.

Peer told media “I dont think there is a place for politics in sport” and added that she did not care about the protesters.

She added that she had not experienced any like the Auckland protests anywhere in the world.
