Making living at home easier
Elderly members of our community who choose to live independently at home will benefit from Jewish Care’s announcement that it has secured 61 new government-funded Home Care packages – over a 30% boost to the existing numbers of Home Care packages.
Jewish Care CEO Bill Appleby said he was delighted with the result, which would enable Jewish Care to provide much needed assistance to a greater number of elderly people in the Victorian Jewish community.
Mr Appleby said the outcome showed Jewish Care successfully continuing to pursue its strategic goal to support choice and independence for everyone, including those who wished to live at home but needed help to do so.
“There were just 1,626 packages allocated across the whole state of Victoria,” Appleby said. “The 61 packages Jewish Care has now secured, on top of the 183 we currently provide, represent an extra $726,000 per annum of recurrent government funding that will support elders and those with complex support needs living independently at home.”
Jewish Care’s Community Aged Care Manager, Brett Ould, explained that the packages would maintain clients of Jewish Care’s Kesher program, which delivered case management and service coordination for older people who had complex support needs and required assistance to continue living independently in their own community.
