MacPlan
Exciting plans for Maccabi youth and a strong focus on Judaism, sport, identity and leadership were the key talking points at the recent MacPlan information session.
The concept was a first for Maccabi NSW, and was designed to ensure that the roofbody was aligned with the needs of its clubs, and that all agreed on a shared vision.
Facilitated by David Schlessinger, the current CEO of the Australia-Israel Chamber of Commerce, the event provided an opportunity for Maccabi presidents from various clubs and the Maccabi Executive to get together to discuss the future of Maccabi from 2014-2017.
The day commenced with Maccabi NSW President Danny Hochberg outlining Maccabi’s 4 year strategic direction, built around 7 key pillars. Keynote speakers on the day were Daniel Grynberg, CEO of Jewish Communal Appeal and Barry Smorgon OAM from Maccabi Australia. Mr Grynberg provided insightful research about the Jewish population in NSW and the importance on focusing on the youth, and Mr Barry Smorgon OAM who spoke about the relationship between Maccabi at local, national and on a global level.
Maccabi Youth Committee representatives, Steven Brisson and Joel Weiner, then outlined the role of the new committee. Included in their lively sessions were various sporting and social activities including holiday camps that are being planned for NSW high school students.
Following the keynote presentations, the Presidents broke into workshops which gave them the opportunity to provide their thoughts and feedback on Maccabi’s 7 Strategic pillars: Judaism, sport, identity, Integrity, leadership, sustainability, and home. The group then agreed on key action points and set priorities.
Maccabi NSW Executive President, Danny Hochberg, said that the day was a big success. “I believe we achieved a lot and feel confident that Maccabi NSW and its clubs, while not on the same page on all issues, have commenced on a path of cooperation and shared vision.”
From the feedback collated from MacPlan, the Maccabi Executive will review each of the portfolios and formulate an action plan to implement the agreed strategies with the clubs.
