The Maccabi Australia board has unanimously endorsed the adoption of the IHRA definition of antisemitism supported by the Executive Council of Australian Jewry.

The board also welcomed the acceptance of the IHRA Working Definition by the: Australian Government and the Federal Opposition; and joins with the ECAj in calling on all State Governments and Opposition to adopt the IHRA Working Definition.

Maccabi Australia President Jeff Sher said: “Through sport and sports-related programs, Maccabi plays an integral role in connecting our community, promoting continuity and combatting antisemitism. It is important that as the largest grassroots Jewish organisation in Australia we play our part in engaging the broader community in the issue and through the dialogue generate a better understanding. Our teams on the sporting field do this every week and we are proud of the bridges that are built.

Maccabi is committed to raising the awareness of antisemitism through its member base and calls on all Jewish Community organisations which have not already done so to adopt the IHRA Working Definition and join with the Maccabi organisation in promoting its understanding and acceptance in the wider community.”
