Leader of the Opposition Tony Abbott has sent a Rosh Hashana message to J-Wire readers…

Tony Abbott

I am pleased to send my best wishes to readers of the J-Wire Online News as you celebrate Rosh Hashanah.

The New Year gives us a chance to reflect on the year that has passed and look to the future with hope and optimism.

I hope you enjoy celebrating this time with family, friends and the broader community.

I also take this opportunity to pay tribute to the very significant contribution made by Jewish Australians to our country. It bears repeating that Australia is the only country, apart from Israel, to have had a Jewish Head of State, Chief Justice and Commander of the Army.

It is also important to remember the threats that Israel faces and to renew our determination to see Israel with a safe and secure future.

I send my warmest wishes to the Jewish community for your Rosh Hashanah celebrations and wish you a prosperous and happy year ahead.

TONY ABBOTT

Leader of the Opposition

  1. The New Year gives us a chance to reflect on the year that has passed and look to the future with hope and optimism.

Forgive my cynicism, but there is no prospect of hope and optimism with Tony Abbott on the political radar.

  2. Noah says:

The PM lost her much loved and respected father on the weekend. What about a bit of decency Otto.

    • Shirlee says:

      Noah

      Get over it.!

Unusual occurrence for Otto, but he’s done nothing.

    • Otto Waldmann says:

Noah , that is unfair, to be honest, incredibly crude and immature.

One issue has NOTHING to do with the other and I shall not dignify your cheap pot shot with any reference to anything else but the topic at hand.

  3. Lynne Newington says:

Sounds like the the opposition leader has made note of my potted history of now Parramatta Bishop Anthony Fisher a couple of weeks ago:
Chaplain to the Victorian Parliament, advisor of politicians, warning them “they wouldn’t fair well if going against church doctrine” and pleased there was a Catholic PM GG and High Court Judge, all in one period of time. He wasn’t too impressed with past premier Morris Iemma, although he should have been, opening the cheque book for the Papal visit in 2008, for a minority community, with the economic crisis just around the corner.

    • Otto Waldmann says:

      Lynne
as I can only pay you compliments, I shall resort to a “nice” rebuttal, being :

possible objections to certain peculiarities you may find at Tony Abbott would be more suitably posted NOT on the occasion of the coveyance of well conceoived felicitous wishes, something Jews can always do with.

  4. Shirlee says:

Come on Otto, don’t keep us in suspense.

    Tell us !!

  5. Otto Waldmann says:

As it happens in politics, would anyone care to compare Tony Abbott’s geetings, which are received by me at least with gratitude, with the message sent and available here by the PM !!
Let’s see if anyone spots the important differences …………..

    • Rita says:

I think, dear Mr. Waldmann, you might be alluding to this:

It is also important to remember the threats that Israel faces and to renew our determination to see Israel with a safe and secure future.

And what’s more, I actually believe that he means it! We only have to look at the different approach to Iran: the government worshipped at their feet recently, whereas the deputy leader of the oppostion warned against just that, and just here at J-Wire.

And while I’m here, may I, immodestly, join Tony Abbott in wishing J-Wire and their writers/readers a very happy, prosperous and PEACEFUL New Year.

      • Otto Waldmann says:

A warm, meek and grateful return of wishes, Rita !
Same goes for you, Shirlee adding, though, that you look fantastic in suspense, so I shall continue to admire you in that state……………..

        otto
