Let there be light
A community based exhibition showcasing the work of 36, national and international Jewish artists will take place at Bondi Beach from 27 Nov to 8 December as part of the huge annual Shir Madness Music Festival.
Artists range in age from 7-70 and come from all over Sydney, regional NSW, Melbourne and Israel. The linking theme is their interpretation of the many facets of light, its depth and its brilliance. Work includes paintings, 3D ceramics/sculpture/glass, film and more.
Featured artists are Dagmar Ackerman, David Brook, Elana Cohen, Gill Cohn, Deborah Frank, Anne Fritz, Barbara Goldin, Merrylin Goodman, Nikki Green, Paul Green, Ewa Henner, Dierdre Hart, Amy Hersch, Barry Hyamson, Andrew Jakubowicz, Michelle Jersky, Jean Kearney, Keith Kearney, Lia Klugman, Jane Korman, David Mane, Katy Mane, Louis Marr, Lee Meskin, Ofra Messiah, Julia Meyerowitz- Katz, Talia Meyerowitz- Katz, Vicky Moliver, Emily Sakardi, Oscar Shub,Sanford Shudnow, Leora Sibony, Sid Sledge, David Solomon, Michael Strum, Derryn Tal, Anastasia Uricher, Laura Veltman. Also featuring is Israeli Ronny Edry’s ‘TED Talks’ video which chronicles his amazing ‘Israel loves Iran’ FaceBook sensation that won hearts and friends across borders and across the world.
Estelle Rozinski has been the gallery curator over the past 2 festivals and has sought to bring the visual art space into line with the Music Festival’s acknowledged excellence. “My efforts have been focused on developing a professional and supportive community of artists from all over Sydney and indeed beyond,” she says.
“In July this year as part of the NAIDOC week celebrations the Ngala Nanga Mai Aboriginal pARenT group exhibited with Jewish artists from the 2012 Shir madness exhibition. The resulting show at the Bondi Pavilion, We Dream We Speak, drew 2000 people.”
The official opening on 27 November at 6pm features artists David Brook and Sid Sledge meeting Emily-Rose Sarkova (accordion) and Owen Salome (guitarist) for a painting-to-music ‘happening’ LIVE. Performance begins at 6.30 pm in the foyer next to the smART space Gallery.
