President of The Executive Council of Australian Jewry Robert Goot told J-Wire: “We are delighted that our colleague on the ECAJ Committee of Management, Julian Leeser, has been  preselected to represent the Liberal party as the candidate for the federal seat of Berowra in the 2016 general election. It is a testament to the high regard in which Julian is held that he won 97 of the 114 votes of the pre-selectors.  We have no doubt that he will be an excellent candidate who will bring erudition, compassion and a formidable intellect to public life. We wish him mazal tov and every success in this new and exciting challenge.   We also acknowledge the retirement of Philip Ruddock who has been a longstanding and sincere friend of the Australian Jewish community and of the ECAJ.

He has a background in law, government and public policy.
