The Zionist Council of New South Wales believes that should the State of Israel decide to extend sovereignty or apply Israeli law to parts of Judea & Samaria (‘West Bank’), that is a decision for the Israeli people to make, whose lives and security are directly impacted by such decisions.

The ZCNSW is the roof body of 48 Zionist organizations in New South Wales.

A statement issued by the ZCNSW comments: “Our primary mission, in accordance with the Zionist ideal, is to support the State of Israel, reinforce the inextricable bond between the Jewish state and our communities, and to champion a strong Israel – Australia bilateral alliance.

Israel, like Australia, is a robust and open democracy, where the government must act in accordance with the wishes of its people. Accordingly, we underscore, however, that no such formal proposal has been made as yet. It is therefore premature for the ZCNSW to make a formal statement regarding hypothetical scenarios.

We recognize that this issue may be a sensitive one for many in our community, from across the political and Zionist spectrum.  Clearly, from the number of emails and articles currently circulating, this topic is generating considerable interest.  ZCNSW encourages open, respectful and considered discussion and to that end, we have sourced various fact sheets and opinion pieces to assist our community in better understanding the issues.”
