Kristallnacht will be remembered tomorrow night in Sydney at a commemoration to be addressed by Dr Piotr Cywinski, the Director of the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum.

Krakow-born Cywinski’s visit has been organised by the Australia/Israel and Jewish Affairs Council with the support of Frank Lowy. Holocaust survivor Ruth Rack witnessed Kristallnacht in her home town of Leipzig. At the meeting, which marks the 72nd anniversary of the “Night of Broken Glass” during which the Nazis destroyed Jewish buildings and synagogues, Rack will tell the story of what she witnessed that fateful November 9 night in 1938.

The function hosted, by the News South Wales Jewish Board of Deputies, will also launch the third booklet in a trilogy published by the Board – “The Holocaust: the Nazi Genocide Against the Jewish People”.

The booklet, to be distributed widely to schools and public organisations follows the publication of “Understanding Judaism” and “The Arab-Israel Conflict.”
