Kol HaKavod
I refer to a letter by Shaun Segal in the Australian Jewish News last Friday 19 May,2017. Dr Segal writes Kol HaKavod to the Board and finance committee of South Head Synagogue but I must question for what is the Kol HaKavod?
· For incurring financial losses for the past 6 years and bringing the Shul into a state of near insolvency?
· For putting the Shul into administration?
· For requiring the administrators to commence proceedings in the Supreme Court and spending tens and even hundreds of thousands of dollars (including on legal fees) that the Shul does not have?
· For not complying with their legal requirements to go to the Beth Din when in dispute with Rabbi Milecki in accordance with their contract and Halacha?
· For creating a Shul not only without a choir but without a Rabbi and spiritual leader?
Finally is it Kol HaKavod for organising security guards to be posted outside the Shul on Friday night and Saturday morning to ensure that the Rabbi Milecki is denied access to the Synagogue?
Is this how Orthodox Jews, paragons of ethics, behave? Is this the way “fair go mate” Australians behave?
Can there be any doubt, no matter your stand on the debate, that the behaviour of the Board and its supporters has been both un-Jewish and un-Australian?
For this we say not “Kol Hakavod”, but “shame, shame, shame”.
Yours faithfully
