Klezmer Divas to perform in Poland
Sydney’s Fay Sussman will take her Klezmer Divas to the land in which many of the songs she sings have their roots…Poland, the country of her birth.
Film-makers Judy Menczel and Paul Green will produce a documentary of the musical journey into nostalgia. Sussman told J-Wire: “The amazing angle on this is that there are non-Jews in Poland who have developed a fervent interest in the once strong Jewish culture which existed in the country.”
Sussman is well aware that the process of healing and repairing the indefinable damage done between Poland and the Jewish people during the Holocaust will be a prolonged and daunting exercise. But she feels that taking the music to former shtetls will aid the process.
The Polish Government is involved in the process and will provide the cost of travel for Fay and her musicians. “I still need some help” the singer told J-Wire.”We have to provide accommodation and daily costs for the musicians and we would appreciate any help we can get.”
Green and Menczel will film the musical journey which will include one of the first live performances at the new History of Polish Jews Museum about to be opened on the site of the Warsaw Ghetto.
