Messages of hope for the hostages being held by Hamas soared sky-high today, when hundreds of members of the Jewish community of Melbourne flew dozens of kites in Caulfield Park as part of the Bring Them Home campaign.

The Kites for Freedom event was particularly symbolic as on 7th October residents of Kfar Azza had been planning to hold their annual Kite Festival.

Traditionally, a day meant to send the community’s message of peace to their Palestinian neighbours, instead it became a day of tragedy and horror when Hamas terrorists rampaged through the kibbutz.

Members of the community brought their own kites to Caulfield Park, or had the chance to make their own there. They then attached messages of hope and unity dedicated to the kidnapped children to the kites, before flying them.

Attendees also heard from Keren Lewinsohn, who grew up on Kfar Azza and whose family were on the kibbutz when the terrorists struck.

She personally knew many of the victims.

Kites For Freedom was organised by Zionism Victoria, Habayit and United With Israel.

Zionism Victoria Executive Director Zeddy Lawrence said, “What the residents of Kibbutz Kfar Azza were brutally prevented from doing on 7th October, we now do in their honour.

“And just as our kites are free to float in the breeze against a bright blue sky, so we pray that the hostages held in Gaza will soon be free to enjoy the daylight once again.
