On October 7th, dozens of terrorists infiltrated Kibbutz Nahal Oz from the northern Gaza Strip.

The terrorists broke into homes, slaughtered kibbutz residents, and murdered entire families. At least 35 kibbutz residents were killed, and dozens more were abducted to Gaza. The “Tkuma” administration began the reconstruction and rebuilding of Kibbutz Nahal Oz.

In this rare KKL-JNF  archive photo, Israel’s first prime minister, David Ben Gurion plants a tree in the Asaf Shmichoni Forest near Nahal Oz in 1959, eight years after the founding of the kibbutz.

Beyond its ecological significance, tree planting was and still is a symbol of combating desertification and establishing roots in the land.
