UIA Australia is counting down until the upcoming Women’s Division events in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, headlined by the former Minister of Foreign Affairs Julie Bishop.

Julie Bishop

A staunch and enduring supporter of Israel, Bishop was Australia’s first female Minister for Foreign Affairs serving from 2013 to 2018. She has been at the forefront of Australia’s determination to quash resolutions in international forums that condemn Israel; ensuring only ‘balanced’ UN resolutions receive its support. In her role, Bishop has overseen the single largest expansion of Australia’s overseas diplomatic presence in 40 years.

UIA NSW Women’s Division Champagne Breakfast will host second guest speaker Arielle Di Porto – Acting Director Aliyah & Absorption at The Jewish Agency. Di Porto was born in Morocco and has been involved with The Jewish Agency for over 30 years. She currently promotes and processes Aliyah around the world (except the former Soviet Union), and has brought her expertise and well-honed skills to effectively manage critical, often clandestine missions from Iran, Pakistan, Lebanon, Egypt, Morocco, Tunis, Yemen and Venezuela. Di Porto also managed the Ethiopian immigration when there were no direct flights from Addis Ababa to Tel Aviv.

Tzameret Fuerst will be the second guest speaker at UIA VIC’s Women’s Division Brunch. Fuerst is a dynamic, vibrant, serial entrepreneur and Co-Founder of a ground-breaking HIV preventive, the world’s only non-surgical male circumcision procedure publicly endorsed by Bill Gates and hailed by the head of UNAIDS as ‘a revolution in HIV prevention’.

Miri Krower – Director of the Youth Futures program in Acco will also speak at UIA VIC and UIA WA’s Women’s Division events. The daughter of a Holocaust survivor and an Iraqi immigrant to Israel, Krower has worked at Keren Hayesod-UIA’s Youth Futures for the past ten years, where mentors work closely with at-risk children and their families to improve interpersonal and intrapersonal skills, develop coping mechanisms for stress and encourage healthy study habits.

UIA Women’s Division President Debbie Schaffer OAM said: “The Jewish women of Australia are looking forward to hearing from Australia’s Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Julie Bishop who will speak about her experiences and longstanding relationship with Israel while encouraging and empowering women of all ages.”
