Shadow Minister for Foreign Affairs, Julie Bishop MP, says Australia should not attend next month’s Durban 2 conference because of “the obvious potential for a repeat of antisemitism.”She told J-Wire that the current draft outcome document for the United Nations Durban Review Conference is “likely to be every bit as one-sided in its anti-Israel bias as the 2001 conference.

The Durban 2 conference is scheduled to take place in Geneva between April 20 and 24, its purpose being to evaluate the progress made since the 2001 World Conference against Racism, Racial Didscrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance. The Durban 1 conference degenerated into an Israel-bashing exercise finding that “Zionism equates to racism” and calling for boycotts against the Jewish nation.

Ms Bishop added: “Several nations walked out of Durban 1 in protest against the antisemitism. Durban 2 could be even worse. Australia should not attend.”
