Jul-11 Melbourne: Russian Jews adapt their identity in Melbourne
“From atheists to traditional? Identity of Russian-speaking Jews in Melbourne”.
This presentation explains how Russian-speaking Jews adapted their identity in Melbourne. Former Soviet Jews immigrated to Australia after decades of official regime discrimination that almost completely destroyed Jewish religion and culture in its public sphere. After living in Australia in proximity to thriving Jewish communities for several decades, how have Russian-speaking Jews adapted their identity? The latest findings about Russian-speaking Jews in Melbourne is presented based on data from the Gen17 survey and interviews.
