Jonathan Coleman, a good friend of Jewish House
Sydney’s Jewish House CEO Rabbi Mendel Kastel is personally saddened by the news of the death of TV star Jonathan Coleman.
London-born Jonathan Coleman died on Friday at the Wolper Jewish Hospital following a three-year-long battle with prostate cancer. He was 65.
Rabbi Kastel told J-Wire: “I am saddened to hear of the passing of our friend Jonathan Coleman. He was a true media star but also a generous friend of Jewish House
I will miss his humour and willingness to help where he can
He always loved chatting about his Jewish heritage back in London and would always make himself available to help us at Jewish House
We loved doing the Rabbi Pickle show on Studio 10 and launching our Coles Passover drive at his local Coles
We wish long life to his dear family and we know that all his friends here and around the world will miss him
May his memory be a blessing and source of inspiration to all.”
In 2015, he was awarded an OAM in the Australia Day awards. The following was published on J-Wire’s list of Jewish honorees. “Jonathan Coleman came to Australia from his native London in 1990 for a six months’ stay. ‘I hated the place so much I stayed for 16 years!’ he quipped. He added: ‘Coming from another country, this award means a lot. It has been a wonderful pleasure to receive this tick of approval for making people laugh.’”
Jonathan Coleman is survived by his wife Margo and his children Emily 27, and Oscar 24.
