JOFA offers new moderator scholarships offered to Jewish women
For its second program of 2024, the Jewish Orthodox Feminist Alliance Australia is offering Australian women an opportunity to learn how to moderate a panel.
“JOFA Australia is excited to partner with Plus61J Media to offer a joint training course for Australian women so that they can learn how to moderate a panel” said JOFA Australia president, Nomi Kaltmann. “I know I am sick of seeing male-only panels and in Australia there is a shortage of qualified female Jewish moderators.”
The two-part moderator’s workshop will equip women with the fundamentals of panel moderating for women all levels of experience. This opportunity will aim nurture and improve women’s moderating skills in both community and professional platforms.
Starting in March 2024, the course will bring together a small group of women on zoom, no matter their location in Australia where they will be learn, grow, and gain the confidence to learn about how to moderate a panel.
“This hands-on opportunity will give women strategies for keeping topics on track, handling disruptions calmly and encouraging debate without losing control of the discussion,” said Kaltmann. “Women, of all ages and at all stages of life and all levels of moderator experience will benefit from this course.”
Excitingly, the small fee to participate in the moderator’s course will be refunded once women chair their first panel as a moderator.
Since launching in 2021, the Jewish Orthodox Feminist Alliance Australia has provided opportunities to Australian women that actively promote leadership and support women’s Torah learning, public speaking, teaching and engagement. To date, almost 300 Australian women have received scholarships to complete training courses.

Dates: This course runs over two online sessions (not recorded and zoom camera on) will be run across 2 sessions:
- Session 1: Wednesday 6 March, 7pm-9pm
- Session 2: Wednesday 13 March, 7pm – 9pm
