Jewish Shorts a Big Success
The first Jewish Shorts event was a sell out with over 230 people attending to hear a series of short talks.
The speakers ranged from the religious to secular and from poignant to funny. Inspired by the success of US phenomenon ted.com Jewish Shorts aimed to inspire the audience with many and varied ideas. Headlining the evening was neurosugeon Dr Charlie Teo who compared his own battle against detractors with the Jewish community’s own issues. Among the speakers were Shamryahu Bowdrie who spoke about his journey as an African American into orthodox Judaism, artist Yaelli Ohana on a series of paintings inspired by Jewish texts, Rebetzin Kastel on the sheitel and Eric Borecki on his father’s experience as one of the partisan portrayed in the movie Defiance.
Organised by The Jewish House and Academy BJE plans are already underway for the second Jewish Shorts early next year.
