Jewish Care’s Windsor home receives vaccine
Federal Labor member for Macnamara Josh Burns asked Prime Minister Scott Morrison why no vaccine had been supplied to Jewish Care’s age centre in Windsor.
Josh Burns said: “After I asked the PM in Question Time on Thursday, I was pleased to hear that they finally got a phone call from the Government and a pledge that their first doses would be delivered the following day.
Their original first dose of the COVID vaccine was scheduled for May 11 but was postponed on the morning of and an initial date was set for the first week of June.
Aged care residents should’ve been the first Australians to get vaccinated. The Government shouldn’t have waited for an outbreak to speed up the aged care rollout.
But I’m glad that as of Friday some of the most vulnerable members of our community finally have at least some level of protection.
Jewish Care Victoria was contacted by Healthcare Australia and the Department of Health’s Aged Care Vaccination Taskforce the same day.
In a statement, Jewish Care advised: “They are bringing forward the COVID-19 vaccination day for our elders living at our Residential Home Windsor to tomorrow. The original vaccination date of 11 May 2021 was cancelled by the government-appointed provider HCA and was ultimately rescheduled to 4 June 2021.”
Jewish Care also received advice from the Chief Medical Officer, Professor Paul Kelly, that shortening the interval between the administration of the influenza vaccine and the COVID-19 vaccine can be justified given the prevailing local epidemiological situation.
Jewish Care added on Thursday: “Whilst the late notice creates some operational challenges, we are delighted that our elders will receive their first COVID-19 vaccination injection tomorrow.”
I happened to be watching Question Time and heard Josh burns MHR and it was a good result for the aged car facility in Windsor. However will he now lobby for other aged care facilities in Macnamara?
