Jewish Care Victoria off the blocks for Chanukah
More than 160 volunteers and friends of Jewish Care celebrated International Volunteer’s Day at Caulfield Hebrew Congregation last week.
Volunteers young and old packed more than 2,000 Chanukah packages for distribution to Jewish Care’s clients, and elderly and isolated members of our community.
Bill Appleby, Jewish Care CEO said it was fabulous to see so many families of all ages and backgrounds working together to support others.
“It was great to see so many kids getting involved in the fun – and with so much enthusiasm! It was also a chance for people to offer feedback and I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity of meeting so many of our volunteers,” he said.
Volunteers expressed enjoyment at participating in the event, with some commenting it was interesting to hear other volunteers’ experiences and find out more about what was happening in other parts of the community.
Said Jewish Care volunteer Mark Leaman: “International Volunteers Day, assisting with Chanukah packages and having lunch with Jewish Care volunteers and staff reinvigorated my spirit. I have been impressed by everyone’s ability to work harmoniously and productively together to ensure values such as respect, kindness and charity were all present. It has been very well done.”
