Jewish Care and Access Inc Launch First Disability Survey in Victorian Jewish Community
Jewish Care Victoria and Access Inc have partnered to develop a survey to identify the needs of people living with disability in the Victorian Jewish community.
Three versions of the survey have been created in order to be fully inclusive of our diverse community. There is a version for carers to complete when the person with disability cannot answer the survey themselves, a plain English version for people with disability and an Easy Read version for people with disability who prefer an easier-to-read document with pictures/icons.
There is currently no detailed data available about people living with disability in the Victorian Jewish community. This survey is the first initiative of the Victorian Jewish community that will obtain a clearer picture of the needs of people living with disability.
To plan for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), it is crucial that disability services organisations, such as Jewish Care and Access Inc are aware of the needs of their communities and how to best tailor their services towards the population.
The survey will be launched on 7 November 2016 on Jewish Care’s website and social media channels, and we call on the community to spread the word about the survey to ensure that the voice of our community is heard.
Jewish Care CEO Bill Appleby said: “This survey is a critically important initiative if we are going to create an evidence base for our service response to the Victorian Jewish community.”
“The NDIS represents an important opportunity to appropriately fund and support individuals living with disability. Organisations like Jewish Care and Access Inc want to make sure they thoroughly understand the levels of support needed in our community, so that we can continue to shape our services and remain relevant in all that we do.”
The survey will also allow participants to nominate themselves to attend a NDIS information session and focus group to assist Jewish Care and Access Inc with understanding how they could develop and tailor disability services.
