Jew-hatred in the Crown carpark
The Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC), has condemned as outrageous the defacing of a car with antisemitic vandalism in the parking area in Crown Casino.
Two days ago, 18-year old Harry, who is Jewish and who wears a yarmulke, was walking through the carpark when he saw the car (not his car). He immediately took a picture.
Last month, Harry was called a “Fuckin Jew” by another patron while in Crown casino. Anti-Semitic acts have been on the rise in Australia in the last several years.
Harry’s story:
A few weeks ago I was at the casino waiting in line at the cashier when a middle-aged man approached me and asked me if I would cash a receipt on his behalf the following morning, considering it is dishonest and unlawful, as well as the fact I was leaving the casino I obviously refused to do so.
He then made a remark saying “I should have never asked you because you are a f*cking Jew” adding “Jews never help anyone”. In utter shock and discomfort, I walked away from the cashier and left the casino immediately.”
Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the Anti-Defamation Commission said: “We are enraged, and condemn this craven display of intolerance which is the latest in a wave of antisemitic attacks to hit our city. Justifiably, this revolting vandalism and the escalating outbreak of hatred that we have seen over the last few years have sent shock waves through the community, causing anxiety and fear.
This is yet another painful reminder that the virus of anti-Jewish bigotry, which threatens the values that we as a country hold dear, remains a persistent and frightening reality in Australia and that we all have much work to do in countering this scourge.
If Melbourne is to remain a welcoming and multicultural city, where people of different faiths feel safe, more needs to be done to combat this growing crisis.
We are confident that Crown Casino will work with Victoria Police to identify those responsible and to prosecute them to the full extent of the law.”
