JCA launches Never Again Response Appeal
Sydney’s JCA has officially launched the Never Again Response Appeal to support the NSW security and advocacy organisations that rely on funding from the organisation.
The Australasian Union of Jewish Students (AUJS), Community Security Group (CSG) and the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies (NSWJBD) have been working without respite responding to incidents of antisemitism and hate that have flooded the local community following the start of the war in Israel.
JCA is the primary funding facilitator of these organisations, assisting them with 90% of their annual operating budgets. In normal times, this equates to combined funding of more than $5m. But with the change in the global landscape, the world and the community are no longer in regular times, and there is a pressing need, coming at an increase in costs.
“Many members of the community have asked how best to support our local front-line organisations – CSG, NSW Jewish Board of Deputies and AUJS. To this end, while JCA has and will continue to utilise reserves to close general and immediate funding gaps, we are now launching a special response fund to boost these and other constituent organisations’ growing needs in the fight against rising antisemitism and to counter community isolation,” commented Ian Sandler, President of JCA.
JCA was founded in 1967 as a direct consequence of the Six-Day War in Israel to ensure that the critical funding needs of Israel could be met while also responding to those of the local Jewish community. This founding premise remains unchanged, but now the organisation is also committed to combatting rising antisemitism and evaluating heightened security risks and increased Israel advocacy requirements that are coming to the fore, knowing that a strong and secure Israel needs a strong and secure diaspora community.
Alain Hasson, CEO of JCA.“On 7th October 2023, Hamas terrorists attacked Israel, starting a war that has and will impact us all indefinitely. At JCA, we recognise that these are unprecedented times, and our community’s priority must be to support Israel and advocate for the release of the hostages. We encourage you to do all you can to assist in meeting these immediate needs. In addition, our priority at JCA is to ensure that our local Jewish community is safe, supported, connected, and represented while we continue to stand with Israel and her people. We appreciate all and any donations received – this appeal stands alone from our 2023 annual campaign and is specifically for the organisations on the frontline in our community.”
