J-AIR Radio plans $500,000 campaign for major expansion
Melbourne Jewish community radio station J-AIR has received its first big donation to kick-start a major fund-raising campaign. The donation of $25,000 from generous supporters of the Jewish community Abe and Marlene Zelwer.
Dr Zelwer said: “This is more than just a donation to a radio station, it is an investment in the long-term future of the Melbourne Jewish community. I hope it encourages others in the Melbourne community to donate to a station with a Jewish flavour and theme in a world where antisemitism is on the rise. I wish J-AIR much success and call on other supporters to help.”
J-AIR hopes to reach its $500,000 goal in its fund-raising campaign.
“In the main, I hope it promotes peace and tolerance in a troubled world,” Dr Zelwer said.
J-AIR station manager Robert Bontschek said: “Dr Zelwer’s generosity in donating $25,000 is greatly appreciated by the big family of volunteers at J-AIR. His spirit of giving will go a long way to solidifying J-AIR as an essential asset for Melbourne.”
The campaign will enable J-AIR to buy premises and build permanent studios that will secure its long-term future.
J-AIR will launch its fund-raising campaign in the next few weeks.
